This role is so vital to the species that soldier termites will emerge and sacrifice themselves by exposure to sunlight in order to protect the breeders. So there can be literally thousands of swarmers and soldiers in and around a home within a matter of days.

Crickets, while mostly harmless, are not only loud and annoying (especially when you're trying to get to sleep) but a food source for bigger, nastier pests like spiders and even snakes.
