Attack of the Termites

21 Sep. 2017

Well, the pallet is going down a treat; delicious. How considerate of someone to leave it Termico_Termite.jpgwithin easy reach of us. Three bricks off the ground, who are they kidding? Pine is one of our favourites. We like to excavate inside the timber boards, leaving a thin veneer on the surface. That makes it easier for us to keep the galleries moist so that we don’t dry out and it makes it hard for our enemies to notice that we’re here.  We can happily travel back & forth between the timbers, the soil,  the nest and no one would even know. That’s the way we roll, hiding from view whenever we can. Pretty sneaky huh?

We should be feeding on the pallet for a couple of months, then we’ll have to find something else to eat. A wine barrel planter would be nice. We love wine barrels, they have everything. If they’re sitting on the ground we can go straight inside, no need for shelter tubes. They have soil, moisture, nice soft wood, usually a bit of decay and sometimes the faint scent of chardonnay or perhaps an earthy left bank bordeaux; Magnifique.
